[The Church of England Newspaper] December 9, 2005--A committee representing evangelical diversity in Southwark Diocese has called for “a healing of division” and has urged the diocese to “find a way to recognise the health and vitality of Co-Mission”. The Southwark Diocesan Evangelical Union committee, in a letter to the DEU constituency, said they “are concerned that the House of Bishops’ Statement will be challenged by those promoting homosexual conduct, leading to the toleration of same-gender sexual relationships.” They added: “Our hope is that over time there will be a healing of the division.” The signatories said they recognise the “enormous challenges which have been thrown up by the Civil Partnerships Act, and the current cultural climate”. The letter also expresses regret for “ the impasse between the diocese and the Co-Mission Churches which has resulted in an irregular ordination and the revoking of Richard Coekin’s licence.”
