[Baker County Press] 14 Dec 2007--The rift between traditional Episcopalians and the breakaway Anglican church came to a head locally last weekend when the Jacksonville-based diocese moved at least tentatively to take back possession of what is now called St. Peter’s at 5th and Minnesota St. in Macclenny.
The Anglican congregation that numbers about 65 severed ties with Episcopal Church USA nearly two years ago over doctrinal differences sparked by the naming of an openly gay man as a bishop in New Hampshire. It was one of hundreds of congregations to do so nationwide.
Like several others in the Jacksonville area, the Anglicans continued to use the former Episcopal buildings and property. In Macclenny, the name was changed from St. James even though the breakaways knew the property and fixtures remained property of the Episcopal diocese.
