Liberal LA Clergy Calling Themselves Orthodox Anglicans Spin Lambeth

[Virtue Online] 5 Feb 2008--In an amazing spin and twist of language, liberal clergy in the Diocese of Los Angeles have issued a statement saying that they are the truly orthodox Anglicans, arguing that Archbishop Rowan Williams is willing to sacrifice the Episcopal Church in order to appease radical conservatives and maintain unity in a fractured Anglican Communion.

Writing in ANGELUS, the Los Angeles Clergy Newsletter, and shared with the permission of the Rt. Rev. Sergio Carranza-Gomez, Assistant Bishop of the diocese (a bishop who refused to answer if he was living in a partnered homosexual relationship with another man when asked by VOL), the clergy blasted Anglican leaders accusing orthodox Primates of being "schismatics" and "poachers from the Global South hunting (for parishes) in the U.S.A. and Canada."

In a turgid, damning letter, the clergy, who did not identify themselves, wrote, "Here we are, just a few months away from the Lambeth Conference, and we find ourselves in an impasse: the Bishop of New Hampshire without an invitation to attend the meeting, the poachers from the Global South hunting in the U.S.A. and Canada, the schismatics trying to steal TEC's property, the Nigerian post-colonial neo-crusader-in-reverse uttering threats, and the Archbishop of Canterbury giving the impression that he is willing to sacrifice the Episcopal Church in order to appease the radical conservatives and thus maintain the unity of an already fractured Anglican Communion."

The irate clergy went on to describe themselves as "truly orthodox Anglicans" who want to preserve not only the identity, but the essence of Anglicanism, and refuse to accept the new religion crafted by some of the power greedy Third World hierarchs and the lunatic fringe of American conservatism, lamenting what they called "perturbing, bewildering and irritating times for the truly orthodox Anglicans.
