Williams may suffer lasting damage

[Telegraph] 15 Feb 2008--After three days suffering the torments of hell over his ill-judged remarks on Islamic law, the Archbishop of Canterbury has metaphorically risen again.

In his presidential address to the General Synod, Dr Rowan Williams refused to modify his admittedly ambivalent views on the place of sharia in the English legal system. At the same time, he displayed sufficient humility over his presentational skills to placate many of his critics.
