On October 18, 2013 the Anglican Church in North America announced the release of Texts for Common Prayer. This collection contains orders for daily morning and evening prayer, forms for holy communion, and a selection of supplementary canticles . They are "working" texts approved by the ACNA College of Bishops for use in that body. Included with these texts is the ordinal which has been adopted and authorized by the ACNA College of Bishops.
According to the Office of the Archbishop Texts for Common Prayer will be available in book form from Amazon.com by January 1, 2014. It was not stated whether it would be available in hard cover or paper back.
According to the Archbishop's Office:
Each Diocesan Bishop will determine how these texts are to be used in his diocese. There is no compulsion to use them, and as has been true from the birth of the Province, dioceses and parishes are authorized to use all the rites common in the Province at the time of our foundation, limiting only anything "contrary to the Word of God." The Texts for Common Prayer will be used for Provincial gatherings. The ACNA Liturgy and Common Worship Task Force is inviting feedback from those using the texts: liturgytaskforce@anglicanchurch.net
A Most Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section has been posted with downloadable PDF and Word files of Texts for Common Prayer on the ACNA website.
I will be examining the statements made in the FAQ section along with the texts contained in the collection and will report my findings to Anglicans Ablaze readers.
