The Meaning of Advent
The Advent season is observed by many Christians as a time of reflection and expectant waiting. The word Advent is English for the Latin word adventus, meaning “coming”. For many Christians, the season of Advent anticipates the coming of Christ from two different perspectives – celebrating the birth of the Messiah, and longing for his Second Coming.
Celebrating the Advent Season
The yearly Advent season provides an opportunity for the Church to pause and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas, namely, the incarnation of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In preparation for Christmas, LifeWay Christian Resources has released a free devotional app that follows the Advent calendar called The Expected One.
