6 Reasons a Pastor Would Want to Lead a Congregation in Need of Revitalization


It’s refreshing to read articles and listen to honest evaluation concerning the need for church revitalization in our denomination. I’ve grown up a Southern Baptist and been a church member at places where revitalization was desperately needed. And I’m confident the anecdotes you and I could share about our church experiences would support the statistics that describe the declining situation of many American churches.

When you observe the church landscape across our land, it is not surprising to conclude that a movement toward church planting offers our denomination hope. As a missions and evangelism pastor, I believe renewed focus on church planting in urban, suburban and even rural settings is the only way Southern Baptists will regain ground evangelistically on current population growth.
