By Robin G. Jordan
1. It reminds the
people that the pastor is Christ’s humble steward whom he has appointed to give
them, his fellow servants, their food at the proper time (Matt. 24:45).
2. It reminds the people that there are many parts but one
body (1 Cor. 12:20).
3. It enables the
people to see the pastor take the bread, break it, lay his hand on it, take the
cup, and lay his hand on every vessel in which there is wine to be consecrated
during the words of institution.
4. It reminds the people that the Church of Jesus Christ has
only one priesthood. It is the priesthood of all believers, of all whom God has
called out of darkness into his wonderful light (1 Peter 2:9)
