11 killed in Peshawar car bombing

A car bombing killed 11 people and caused injuries to another 26 in the militancy-hit Badaber area near the city on Wednesday. Eyewitnesses said a car exploded near the police station in the rush hour, causing mayhem. The makeshift Badaber police station was apparently the target of the attack, which the terrorists missed.

“An explosive laden car had been parked right opposite to the Badaber police station on Teelaband Road. The perpetrators had apparently fled the scene after they failed to reach the target. The explosion occurred all of a sudden,” Senior Superintendent of Police Ijaz Khan told reporters after the incident.

An eyewitness told this correspondent that a family comprising a man, a woman and two children was passing through the area in a taxicab at the time of the explosion and all the four were killed. The body of the driver was burnt beyond recognition, he added.

Volunteers and rescue teams rushed to the area soon after the incident and transported the bodies and wounded to the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH).

The hospital’s Chief Executive, Abdul Hameed Afridi, told reporters that nine bodies, including three of kids, and 23 injured people were brought to the hospital, where an emergency had been declared. Three of the injured were in serious condition, he added.
