[The Living Church] 9 Feb 2008--Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams’ remarks on Islamic religious courts as an option for Muslims living in Great Britain have drawn strong reaction, including British Prime Minister Gordon Brown as well as senior leaders from various provinces of the Anglican Communion.
Archbishop Williams delivered the foundation lecture Feb. 7 at the Royal Courts of Justice, noting that in parts of the country, Islamic religious courts based on the Koran, were already functioning. A reporter for BBC-Radio 4 asked a series of follow up questions and the news was widely reported that Archbishop Williams had said Sharia law was inevitable.
