Ordinariate Watch: Personal Ordinariate in UK receives large grant

The Trustees of the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament, at a recent meeting, unanimously agreed to make a grant of one million pounds – $1.6 million – to support the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham, according to a CBS press release. The Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament, founded in 1862, is a registered charity for the advancement of the Catholic faith in the Anglican tradition. The Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham, a special structure set up by the Catholic Church to welcome Anglicans who had asked to be welcomed into the Church, was established in January 2011, and is also a registered charity for the advancement of the Catholic faith.

Commenting on the grant, Fr. Christopher Pearson, superior-general of the Confraternity, said, “the Trustees considered an application for financial support for the Ordinariate very carefully,… and we agreed that the objectives of the Ordinariate were compatible with those of the Confraternity, specifically the advancement of the Catholic faith in the Anglican tradition. We agreed that making a grant would be in the best interests of the Confraternity, in furthering our charitable objectives. We also hope that a substantial grant might be a helpful signal to others contemplating offering financial support to the Ordinariate, thus increasing the likelihood of the charitable objects of the Confraternity being secured in the long term.”
