The problem of sexual abuse in the church is not confined to the sexual abuse of young children, adolescents, and young adults but may extend to the sexual abuse of male and female adult church members by their pastor or a staff member, male and female staff members by their pastor or fellow staff members, and seminarians by their instructors or their fellow seminarians. Sexual abuse and exploitation may occur wherever a relationship exists in which one person exercises authority or influence over another person.
