[News & Star] 1 Dec 2007--A west Cumbrian church has become the first in the county to convert into a post office.
Eskdale had been without a post office for 18 months. The nearest service was in Holmrook six miles away and church warden, Dr John Wedley, decided it was time the villagers had their own service twice a week.
So for two mornings a week the back of St Bega’s Church will be converted into a post office.
This is a real service in rural communirties where the village post office is a disappearing institution.
