All Hallows Evening Prayer for Saturday Evening (March 6, 2021) Is Now Online
All Hallows Evening Prayer is a service of worship in the evening for all pilgrims on the journey to the heavenly city.
At the heart of being neighborly, being friendly and well-disposed toward our fellow human beings, is the recognition that they are all God’s creation; they are part of the world which God so loved that he gave his only begotten Son that all who believe in him shall not perish but have eternal life. While we humans can be very cruel and unloving toward our fellow human beings, that is not the way of Christ. It is not the path that Jesus calls us to take.
The Scripture reading for this Saturday evening is Luke 10: 25-37 The Parable of the Good Samaritan.
The homily is titled, “Neighbor to Each Other, Neighbor to All.”
The second psalm is Marty Haugen’s folk style arrangement of Psalm 91, “Be With Me.” This arrangement is scored for SATB voices, cantor, assembly, keyboard, guitar, and two C instruments (violin). It is available from GIA Publications.
The dismissal song is Omer Westendorf’s translation of the Latin hymn Ubi Caritas, “Where Charity and Love Prevail.” Westendorf was one of the earliest Catholic lyricists in English. His best known works are “Where Charity and Love Prevail,” “Sent Forth by God’s Blessing,” and especially “Gifts of Finest Wheat.” The tune is CHRISTIAN LOVE, CM, composed by Paul Benoit OSB. Keyboard accompaniment, guitar accompaniment, and choral are available from Oregon Catholic Press (OCP).
