All Hallows Evening Prayer is a service of worship in the evening for all pilgrims on the journey to the heavenly city.
We are on the final leg of our Lenten journey—Holy Week. During this week we commemorate Jesus’ last meal with his disciples before his arrest; his institution of the Lord’s Supper as a remembrance and proclamation of his death; and his betrayal, arrest, trial, suffering, death on the cross, and hasty burial. These events took place so that we might enjoy a risen life with Jesus—something that we should never forget. It is the sorrow of Holy Week that ushers in the joy of Easter.
The Scripture reading for this Sunday is Luke 23: 1-49 The Trial, Crucifixion, and Death of Jesus.
The homily is titled “Not Without Purpose.”
