Anglican Primate of Nigeria to Inaugurate North American Diocese

His Grace, the Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, the Primate of All Nigeria and the Archbishop of Abuja, is to formally inaugurate the Missionary Diocese of the Trinity (MDT), in Indianapolis, Indiana on August 19, 2012. The MDT is a cluster of churches in North America and Canada, created by the General Synod of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion). It is an offshoot of the Church of Nigeria and an affiliate of Anglican Church in North America and Convocation of Anglicans in North America.

The mission of the MDT is to build a Christ-centered, multicultural, multiracial, Bible-based church that believes in the apostolic teaching and is sensitive to human needs. Its vision is to harvest the world for Christ.

The ordinary of the MDT is the Rt. Rev Amos Fagbamiye. Bishop Fagbamiye is a suffragan bishop of the Convocation of Anglicans in North America.

Mrs. Nkasiobi Okoh, the president of the women's organizations of the Church of Nigeria and wife of Archbishop Okoh, the registrar of the Church of Nigeria, and three Nigerian archbishops are accompanying the Nigerian primate.

Following the inauguration, Archbishop Okoh and his party are visiting Regina, Saskatchewan in Canada (August 21 -23). The Anglican Church of the Redeemer, Regina will host the Nigerian primate at its new church building at 5000 8th Avenue, Regina, Saskatechewan, Canada. As this visit is his first to Canada, Archbishop Okoh has chosen the historic city of Regina, Saskatchewan as his first stop.

A banquet and worship is planned for Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 7:00pm (CST) at the the Anglican Church of the Redeemer. One of the halls in the building will also be named after Archbishop Okoh.

Archbishop Okoh chairs the GAFCON Theological Resource Group, which produced the GAFCON documents, The Way, the Truth, and the Life and Being Faithful: The Shape of Historic Anglicanism Today.

The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has 20 million members.
