All Hallows Evening Prayer for Wednesday Evening (June 16, 2021) Is Now Online

Due to intermittent broadband internet service I was unable to post this Wednesday evening’s service until a short while ago.

All Hallows Evening Prayer is a service of worship in the evening for all pilgrims on the journey to the heavenly city.

One of the things that sets the Gospel of Mark from the other three gospels is that in Mark’s Gospel the disciples repeatedly do not get what Jesus is teaching. In today’s reading Jesus explains to them the meaning of the Parable of the Sower. New Testament scholars have put forward various theories as to why Mark portrays them as dense, slow-witted. One theory is a story-telling device, intended to draw those hearing Mark’s gospel into the gospel and to hold their attention. The listeners are in on a secret that Jesus’ closest disciples should grasp but fail to do so. The listeners are kept in suspense, wondering when the disciples will finally get it.

The Scripture reading for this Wednesday evening is Mark 4: 13-23 The Parable of the Sower

The homily is titled “How We Become Good Soil”
