More on Projectors in Worship

By Wes Bredenhof

This morning on Facebook I re-shared this post from a weeks ago about projectors in worship. One of those who commented was Frank Ezinga, the church organist from the first congregation I served (in Langley, British Columbia). I thought Frank’s comments deserved a wider audience so, with his permission, I’m sharing them here.... Read More

In my own church I have observed much greater participation in the congregational singing during the traditional service in which hymnals are used as well as wall screens than at the contemporary service in which only wall screens are used. One reason is that the tech team in projecting the lyrics on the wall screens does not keep pace with the praise band; a second reason is that the praise band does not repeat songs often enough for the congregation to learn and master them. A third reason is that the songs are not chosen with much thought to the congregation's participation in the songs, as well as where they are to be used in the service or the particular Sunday. The praise band is also not very animated. One young woman, while she has a good voice, always has a deadpan expression on her face. A second woman is always smiling. They don't look like they are singing from the heart. They could take a few lessons from my voice teachers, both of whom are members of the church and who attend the traditional service. One sings in the choir.
