Happy Earth Day 2021!
This Google Doodle reminds me of the pines that once grew for many years in the place that I called home. When I was a boy, the trees were no higher than myself. As I grew older, they grew taller, green all year round and fragrant in the summer, the home for squirrels and the nesting places for birds. The trees are gone now. Someone who saw in them a quick profit sold them for pulp wood. I no longer have a place to call home. The house is gone too. In my heart, however, the pines will always be tall and green. The pine needles will crunch beneath my feet and the blue jays will cry from their branches.
