All Hallows Evening Prayer is a service of worship in the evening for all pilgrims on the journey to the heavenly city.
This Saturday evening is Easter Even, the eve of Easter Sunday. In pre-COVID-19 days some churches would have held an all-night vigil on Easter Even. The vigil would begin with the singing of the Exultet and conclude with the lighting of the Easter Fire early on Easter Morning. Different sections of the congregation would take turns keeping vigil throughout the night. For congregations that cannot meet due to the pandemic, it is still possible to hold an all-night vigil. The singing of the Exultet can be livestreamed as can be the lighting of the Easter Fire. Congregants can commit themselves to keeping vigil at home for an hour or more on Easter Even. The Scripture reading for this Saturday evening is Matthew 27: 57-66 The Burial of Jesus
The homily is titled “The Cost of Discipleship.”
