All Hallows Evening Prayer is a service of worship in the evening for all pilgrims on the journey to the heavenly city.
In the Gospels Jesus does not say anything about wives adapting to their husbands or submitting to them. We encounter this teaching in the writings of the apostles—Peter and Paul. Jesus questioned rabbinical teaching. Peter and Paul, on the other hand, may have turned to rabbinical teaching to fill in what they considered gaps in Jesus’ teaching.
Here is one of those “what if” questions to tantalize us. “What if these omissions from Jesus’ teaching were intentional? What if he left these gaps not because he expected the apostles to fill in the gaps, but because they concerned issues that he did not consider important?”
The Scripture reading for this Saturday evening is Genesis 2:18-24 A Second Account of the Creation of Woman.
