Loyalty is a major theme in the Book of Ruth from which today’s reading is taken. But it is also a major theme of the Bible. Book after book of the Bible points to God’s faithfulness and trustworthiness. God can be depended on by those who put their trust in him.
We, on the other hand, are fickle and unfaithful.
We are changeable in our loyalties and affections, untrustworthy, and
unreliable. We may hail Jesus as the Son of David on one day and calling for
his crucifixion on the next.
The Scripture reading for this Saturday evening is Ruth 1: 1-18 A Daughter-In-Law’s
Loyalty.
