A Penitential Service for the First Day of Lent, also Known as Ash Wednesday, Is Now Online

For those who are unable to attend an Ash Wednesday Service at their own church or who do not have a church at which they can attend an Ash Wednesday Service, an online penitential service has been posted on the All Hallows Murray website. This service is an adaptation of the penitential service from The Book of Common Prayer (1956) of the Free Church of England, traditionally read on the first day of Lent, also known as Ash Wednesday. The service has been rendered into modern English and some alterations and additions have been made to the service. The service may be read at any time of the day.

The opening song is Jack Noble White’s arrangement of the Second Song of Isaiah for SATB voices, assembly, piano, and hand bells. It is available from J. W. Pepper.

The reading is Ezekiel 33: 10-20 God’s Justice and Mercy.

The dismissal song is Marty Haugen’s Lenten hymn, “Return to God,” available from GIA Publications.

The link to the service is https://allhallowsmurray.blogspot.com/2021/02/a-penitential-service-for-first-day-of.html.

Please feel free to share the link to the service with anyone whom you believe might benefit from the service.

If an ad plays when you open a link to a video in a new tab, click the refresh icon of your browser until the song appears. An ad may follow a song so as soon as the song is finished, close the tab.

May you and your loved ones have a holy Lent.
