Welcome to All Hallows Evening Prayer, a service of worship in the evening for all pilgrims on the journey to the heavenly city.
This coming Tuesday is Shrove Tuesday, a day on which penitents at one time were “shrived” of their sins—confessed their sins to a priest, received absolution, and were assigned penances before beginning the forty days of Lent. It is a last day of Epiphanytide. In some traditions it is marked by the consumption of pancakes and other sweets. Pancakes and other sweets are a practical way of using up rich foods before the Lenten season in which such foods are traditionally avoided. A reminder: In addition to a service of Evening Prayer on Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2021, All Hallows Murray will also provide a penitential service for those who are unable to attend the Ash Wednesday Service at their own church. or who do not have a church whose Ash Wednesday Service that they can attend.
The Scripture reading for this Sunday evening is Hebrews 13:10-16 Service Well-Pleasing to God.
The homily is titled, “The Practice of God’s Presence.” It answers the question of how we may continuously offer a sacrifice of praise to God through Jesus.
